Package overview
This version of our Luang Prabang and Vientiane combination flips the order and the balance: clients land in Vientiane, see the capital's monuments and the unusual Buddha Park on day one, then fly north for three full nights in Luang Prabang rather than two. It's a useful alternative for agents booking clients on flights that route through Vientiane, or who simply want more time in the UNESCO-listed old town than the capital.
Extra time in Luang Prabang means a fuller day of temple and museum sightseeing plus a proper half-day Mekong cruise to the Pak Ou Caves, with a stop at a rice-wine-making village along the way. As with our other Laos itineraries, November to February is the most reliable season, with cooler evenings for the Phousi Hill sunset climb and clearer water at Kuang Si Falls.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Vientiane, city tour
The afternoon tour covers Wat Sisaket, built in 1818 and the oldest temple still standing in the capital, known for cloister walls lined with thousands of Buddha images. The route continues past the Patuxay Monument, Vientiane's own Arc de Triomphe, with a sunset boat trip on the Mekong River, before visiting Wat Prakeo (Haw Phra Kaew), the former royal temple and one-time home of the Emerald Buddha.
Day 2: Buddha Park, fly to Luang Prabang
The morning is spent at Buddha Park, on the outskirts of Vientiane, where hundreds of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures imported from India stand in open parkland. After checking out, the group transfers to the airport for a short domestic flight to Luang Prabang, where a local guide meets the flight and transfers clients to their hotel.
Day 3: Luang Prabang city tour and Pak Ou Caves
A morning visit to the National Museum at the former Royal Palace is followed by a walk past Luang Prabang's temples to Wat Xiengthong, known for its low sweeping roofline. In the afternoon, a Mekong cruise to the Pak Ou Caves stops at Ban Xang Hai village to see rice wine being made, before reaching caves filled with gold-leafed Buddha statues left by pilgrims. The day ends with the climb up Mount Phousi's 328 steps for sunset views.
Day 4: Luang Prabang city tour and Kuang Si Falls
A second day of sightseeing in and around Luang Prabang, built around Kuang Si Falls — a multi-tiered waterfall with turquoise pools set in forest, roughly half an hour outside town, popular for swimming and short walks along marked trails.
Day 5: Departure
Transfer to Luang Prabang International Airport for the onward or homeward flight, ending a trip that has covered both the capital and the country's cultural heart.
