Luang Prabang is Laos's single most bookable asset for Indian travellers who haven't considered the country before — a UNESCO World Heritage town of gilded temples, French-era shophouses and a genuinely slow pace, sitting where the Mekong meets the Nam Khan River. This four-day itinerary keeps the whole trip inside Luang Prabang and its surrounding countryside, making it an easy three-night add-on to a longer Vietnam, Thailand or Cambodia booking rather than a full country tour.
The pace is unhurried by design: two full days of temples, caves and markets in town, one day out to hill-tribe villages and Kuang Si Falls, and a straightforward departure. It works well for couples and small groups who want cultural sightseeing without long transfers, and is easiest to run from November to February when weather is most predictable.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Luang Prabang, city tour
Arrival into Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage town at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. The rest of the day is free to explore the compact old quarter on foot, taking in temple architecture, French colonial buildings and the riverside setting that has made the town one of the best-preserved in Southeast Asia.
Day 2: Luang Prabang city tour and Pak Ou Caves
A closer look at Luang Prabang's temples, including Wat Xieng Thong and the former Royal Palace, is followed by a boat trip up the Mekong to the Pak Ou Caves. Set into a limestone cliff where the Nam Ou River joins the Mekong, the caves hold thousands of Buddha images left by generations of pilgrims and worshippers.
Day 3: Kuang Si Falls and hill-tribe villages
The day starts at Phosi Market, where stalls sell everything from dried buffalo hide and local tea to fresh vegetables and handwoven textiles. The route then continues through several Lao ethnic minority villages, including Hmong and Khmu communities, before reaching Kuang Si Falls, where multi-tiered turquoise pools are open for swimming and short forest trails invite a longer walk.
Day 4: Departure
Free time in Luang Prabang until transfer to the airport for the onward or homeward flight, closing out a short but complete introduction to northern Laos.
