Package overview
Luang Prabang is the easiest starting point for selling Laos to Indian clients who haven't considered the country before: a UNESCO World Heritage town of gilded temples and colonial-era shophouses, set at the meeting point of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, with a pace noticeably slower than Vietnam or Thailand. This five-day version stays entirely within Luang Prabang and its surroundings but adds a full extra day compared with our four-day programme, giving more room to unwind between activities.
The additional day is built around an elephant camp visit, making this version a better fit for families or clients who want more than temples and waterfalls. Otherwise the rhythm stays the same: city sightseeing, a Mekong boat trip to the Pak Ou Caves, hill-tribe villages and Kuang Si Falls. Best run from November to February for cooler, drier weather.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Luang Prabang, city tour
Arrival into Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage town where traditional Lao wooden houses sit alongside French colonial buildings on a peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. There are no fixed activities after check-in, leaving time to walk the old quarter or watch the sunset from a riverside café.
Day 2: Luang Prabang city tour and Pak Ou Caves
A guided look at Luang Prabang's key temples and the former Royal Palace is followed by a boat trip on the Mekong to the Pak Ou Caves. Cut into a limestone cliff at the point where the Nam Ou River meets the Mekong, the caves shelter thousands of Buddha statues left over generations by local pilgrims.
Day 3: Kuang Si Falls and hill-tribe villages
The morning begins at Phosi Market, where traders sell everything from dried buffalo hide and local tea to vegetables and handwoven textiles. From there, the route passes through several Lao ethnic minority villages — Ban Ouay, Ban Ou, Ban Thapene and nearby Hmong and Khmu communities — before reaching Kuang Si Falls, known for its layered turquoise pools and shaded forest trails.
Day 4: Elephant camp experience
A full day centred on an elephant camp outside Luang Prabang, with the chance to observe and interact with elephants in a river or forest setting. Days like this typically combine a short ride or walk with feeding and bathing, making a good change of pace after two days of temples and caves.
Day 5: Departure
Free time in Luang Prabang before transfer to the airport for the onward or homeward flight, ending a relaxed five-day introduction to northern Laos.
