Siem Reap at a glance
Siem Reap is a resort town in northwestern Cambodia and the base every client uses to visit the Angkor Archaeological Park, seat of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries. Angkor Wat, the temple pictured on Cambodia's national flag, is the centrepiece, but the wider park holds dozens of temple sites within a manageable drive of the town.
Bayon Temple, inside the walled city of Angkor Thom, is known for its carved stone faces looking out in every direction, while Preah Khan and Baphuon add scale and detail for clients who want more than a half-day temple visit. Back in town, Pub Street and the surrounding old French quarter give the evening a different pace - restaurants, bars and night markets a short tuk-tuk ride from most hotels.
We typically quote Siem Reap on its own for short breaks, or paired with Phnom Penh for clients who want the temples and the capital's riverfront and heritage sites in a single trip.
