Package overview
This is the leanest way to put both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap on one Cambodia itinerary: a single night in the capital covers arrival and a morning of sightseeing before the group heads on to Siem Reap, where the remaining two nights are built around a full day at Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom.
Because the Phnom Penh stop is brief, it works best for clients who mainly want Angkor but would still like a capital-city touchpoint on the way, rather than those wanting an in-depth Phnom Penh programme — our 5- or 6-night combinations allow more time in the capital for that.
Trip highlights
- Overnight stop in Phnom Penh before continuing to Siem Reap
- Angkor Wat, built for King Suryavarman II in the 12th century
- Angkor Thom's Bayon Temple and Baphuon, an 11th-century Shiva temple
- Ta Prohm, the jungle-covered 'Tomb Raider' temple
- Sunset from Bakheng Mountain temple
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Phnom Penh
Arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport and private transfer to the hotel, without an accompanying guide. The rest of the day is free for independent rest or an evening walk along the Mekong riverfront before the Phnom Penh sightseeing and onward transfer the next morning.
Day 2: Phnom Penh sightseeing, transfer to Siem Reap (B)
After breakfast and check-out, the morning is used for Phnom Penh sightseeing before the group departs for Siem Reap, arriving in time to check in and rest ahead of the full Angkor day that follows. Sightseeing content on this half-day can be tailored to the client's interests.
Day 3: Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm circuit (B)
The full day opens at Angkor Wat, the largest temple in the world, built facing west rather than east like most Khmer temples. The circuit continues into Angkor Thom, the walled last capital of the Khmer empire, entered via the South Gate, taking in Bayon Temple's carved stone faces and the 11th-century Baphuon, built for the Hindu god Shiva.
From there the route passes the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, with a lunch stop near Srah Srong (own account) before continuing to Ta Prohm, left tangled in banyan tree roots since its rediscovery. The day ends with sunset viewed from Bakheng Mountain temple.
Day 4: Transfer to Siem Reap Airport (B)
Breakfast at the hotel, then a private transfer to Siem Reap International Airport for the onward or return flight. As with the Phnom Penh arrival, this transfer runs without an accompanying guide, and the departure day carries no further sightseeing.
