Package overview

This is a single-base itinerary — three nights in one Ho Chi Minh City hotel, with no domestic flight and no second Vietnam destination attached. It's built for clients whose Vietnam requirement starts and ends in the south, whether as a standalone city break or as one stop on a wider Southeast Asia itinerary booked with other countries.

The two full excursion days cover Cu Chi Tunnels and colonial Ho Chi Minh City on one day, and the Mekong Delta on the other, leaving the final morning free before departure. It runs comfortably most of the year, though the wetter months from roughly June to September can bring short afternoon downpours that don't generally disrupt the schedule.

Trip highlights

  • Cu Chi Tunnels, the underground network used during the independence struggle
  • Half-day tour of colonial Ho Chi Minh City, including Notre Dame Cathedral and the Opera House
  • Full-day Mekong Delta boat and village excursion via My Tho
  • A single hotel base for the whole stay, with no domestic flight required

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Ho Chi Minh City (about a 30-minute, 10 km transfer from the airport)

Ho Chi Minh City, still widely known as Saigon, is Vietnam's largest city and commercial hub, with a denser, more modern feel than Hanoi alongside its own share of colonial-era landmarks. Arrival afternoons are usually spent settling in, with an optional walk through the central districts to get a first sense of the city.

Day 2: Cu Chi Tunnels excursion (about 1½ hours / 70 km one way)

The day is spent at the Cu Chi Tunnels, an extensive underground network built by Vietnamese resistance fighters during the long struggle for independence. Guides walk the group through accessible sections of the tunnel system and the surrounding exhibits explaining its construction and use.

Day 3: Mekong Delta tour (about 2 hours / 80 km one way)

A two-hour drive southwest reaches the Mekong Delta, Vietnam's rice bowl, where a boat cruise through the Vam Xep canal leads to a small islet for a walk past orchards and villages. Stops include a bee farm with honey tea and fruit tasting, a coconut-candy workshop and a narrow-canal row-boat ride before returning to Ho Chi Minh City via My Tho by motorised boat.

Day 4: Half-day Ho Chi Minh City tour, departure

After checkout, a half-day walking tour covers the former Presidential Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Old Saigon Post Office, Dong Khoi Street, the Continental Hotel, the Opera House and City Hall, before transfer to Tan Son Nhat International Airport for the onward or homeward flight.

Frequently asked questions

Does this itinerary include any destination outside Ho Chi Minh City?
No, this is a single-base itinerary covering only Ho Chi Minh City and its two main day trips, Cu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong Delta. Agents wanting to add Mui Ne, Phu Quoc or central Vietnam should look at the longer combined itineraries.
Is a domestic flight required for this trip?
No, everything on this itinerary is reached by road from Ho Chi Minh City, so no domestic flight is needed.
What is the best season to travel?
This routing runs comfortably most of the year. The wetter months from roughly June to September can bring short afternoon showers, which don't usually disrupt the Cu Chi or Mekong Delta excursions.
Can this tour run for a small private group?
Yes, it operates on either a private or seat-in-coach basis; SIC minimum numbers should be confirmed with the operator at the time of quoting.
Can vegetarian or Jain meals be arranged, including on the Mekong Delta day?
Yes, with advance notice — the Mekong Delta lunch stop has some flexibility, but dietary requirements should be flagged clearly when booking so the local family or restaurant can prepare accordingly.
