Package overview

Unlike our north-south itineraries, this ten-day route starts and stays in southern and central Vietnam, running Ho Chi Minh City through Mui Ne's sand dunes and the Da Lat highlands before flying to Danang for Hoi An, Ba Na Hills and a Hue day trip. Hanoi and Halong Bay are not part of this routing at all.

Most of the journey is overland by road — Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne, Mui Ne to Da Lat — with a single domestic flight from Da Lat to Danang, so clients see more of the coastal and highland scenery between stops than they would flying everywhere. It's a strong option for repeat visitors filling in the south and center, or for any group whose flights land and depart via Ho Chi Minh City and Danang rather than Hanoi.

Trip highlights

  • Cu Chi Tunnels and a half-day Ho Chi Minh City tour
  • Mekong Delta boat excursion
  • White and Red Sand Dunes in Mui Ne
  • Hoi An Ancient Town and Ba Na Hills' Golden Bridge
  • Hue day trip with a Perfume River boat ride

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City (30 min / 10 km)

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is Vietnam's commercial hub, a fast-paced mix of colonial-era landmarks and modern high-rises about 30 minutes from Tan Son Nhat International Airport. After check-in, the rest of the day is free to rest or explore independently before the tour proper begins tomorrow.

Day 2: Cu Chi Tunnels and half-day Ho Chi Minh City tour (1.5 hrs / 70 km)

After breakfast, visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, then continue after lunch to visit the former Presidential Palace and, on foot, the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City: Notre Dame Cathedral, the Old Saigon Post Office, Dong Khoi Street, the Continental Hotel and City Hall.

Day 3: Mekong Delta excursion (2 hrs / 80 km)

A roughly two-hour drive southwest of Ho Chi Minh City reaches the Mekong Delta, Vietnam's rice bowl. A boat cruise along the Vam Xep canal reaches a small islet for a walk past orchards and villages, with stops at a bee farm and a family-run coconut candy workshop. A horse-cart ride and a rowboat trip along shaded canals round out the day before the drive back to Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 4: Road transfer to Mui Ne (5 hrs / 220 km)

A road transfer of around five hours takes you from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne on the south-central coast. After check-in, the afternoon and evening are free to enjoy the beach along the South China Sea.

Day 5: Mui Ne city tour

A free morning precedes an afternoon jeep tour to Mui Ne's landmarks: the Fairy Stream (Suoi Tien), a working fishing village, and the White and Red Sand Dunes, timed to end with sunset over the dunes.

Day 6: Road transfer to Da Lat (4 hrs / 170 km)

A roughly four-hour road transfer climbs from the coast to Da Lat, Vietnam's hill-station town, a change of scenery after Mui Ne's dunes. After checking in, the afternoon covers Lang Biang Mountain, Datanla Waterfall and Dalat Flower Park.

Day 7: Fly to Danang, evening in Hoi An (1 hr / 30 km)

A domestic flight from Da Lat reaches Danang. After check-in, visit the Cham Museum and Marble Mountain, then continue to Hoi An for the evening — a walking tour of the Ancient Town taking in the Tan Ky old house, Assembly Hall, Japanese Covered Bridge and riverside market before returning to Danang.

Day 8: Ba Na Hills excursion

A cable car system rated among the most modern in Southeast Asia lifts you into the cool hill air of Ba Na, often billed as Danang's answer to Sa Pa or Da Lat. Highlights include the French Village's wine cellar, the Golden Bridge held aloft by giant stone hands, Linh Ung Pagoda and Fantasy Park's amusement rides. A second cable car reaches King Peak at 1,487m for panoramic views over Danang and Quang Nam province before the transfer back to your hotel.

Day 9: Hue day trip and Perfume River boat ride (2 hrs / 100 km)

A full-day excursion to Hue crosses Hai Van Pass with a stop at Lang Co Beach and Minh Mang Tomb en route. In Hue, a boat trip on the Perfume River calls at Thien Mu Pagoda, Hon Chen Temple, the Forbidden City and Dong Ba Market before the drive back to Danang in the evening.

Day 10: Departure from Danang

The morning is left free for last-minute shopping, a coffee in one of Danang's riverside cafés, or simply resting before the transfer to Danang International Airport for your onward flight — a relaxed close to a route that started in Ho Chi Minh City.

Can vegetarian or Jain meals be arranged?
Yes, vegetarian and Jain-style requests can generally be arranged at hotels and included restaurants with advance notice; please flag dietary needs at the time of booking.
