Package overview

This itinerary follows the same overland spine as Indochina Signature's shorter Flores Komodo program, from Ende across Kelimutu's crater lakes and the Ngada and Manggarai highlands to Labuan Bajo, but adds a coastal detour to Riung on Flores' north coast. There, guests visit Blue Stone Beach and spend a half-day snorkeling at Riung Marine Garden, part of the Seventeen Islands Marine Park, before continuing inland to Bajawa.

The extra day and the Riung stop make this the better choice for clients who want some time in the water before the Komodo boat days, or who simply prefer a less compressed overland schedule across Flores' mountainous roads. The Komodo National Park section, Rinca Island, Komodo Island and Pink Beach, follows the same format as the shorter tour, so agents can position this as the fuller, slower-paced sibling of the two Flores routes.

Trip highlights

  • Kelimutu's three-colored crater lakes near Moni village
  • Blue Stone Beach and half-day snorkeling at Riung Marine Garden
  • Traditional village life around Bajawa, including Bena village
  • Cancar's spider-web rice terraces on the road to Labuan Bajo
  • Komodo dragon sightings on Rinca Island, plus Komodo Island and Pink Beach

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Ende, Flores Island to Moni village

The tour starts in Ende on Flores' east coast, reached by domestic flight, and drives inland to Moni village, the small highland base used for the Kelimutu sunrise excursion the next morning. The road climbs through terraced farmland typical of this part of Flores.

Day 2: Moni village, Kelimutu Lake, Ende, Blue Stone Beach and on to Riung

After viewing Kelimutu's three mineral-colored crater lakes, known for shifting shades over time, the group returns via Ende and continues to Flores' north coast, stopping at Blue Stone Beach on the way to the fishing town of Riung. Breakfast is included.

Day 3: Half-day snorkeling at Riung Marine Garden, then on to Bajawa

A half-day snorkeling trip covers part of Riung Marine Garden, within the Seventeen Islands Marine Park off Flores' north coast, before the group drives inland to Bajawa in the Ngada highlands for the night. Breakfast is included, and this is the only water-based activity on the route.

Day 4: Bajawa, Bena village, Aimere village and on to Borong/Ruteng

The day includes a stop at Bena, a traditional Ngada village known for its stone megaliths and thatched-roof houses arranged around a ceremonial center, and Aimere village, continuing to the Ruteng area in the Manggarai highlands. Breakfast is included on this longer overland driving day.

Day 5: Ruteng, Cancar's rice terraces, Lembor and on to Rinca Island

The route passes Cancar's distinctive spider-web-shaped rice fields, best seen from a nearby viewpoint, and the Lembor plain before reaching Labuan Bajo and transferring by boat to Rinca Island for the start of the national park section. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 6: Rinca Island, Komodo Island, Pink Beach and back to Labuan Bajo

This national park day includes a guided walk on Rinca Island to see Komodo dragons, a stop on Komodo Island, and a visit to Pink Beach, named for its coral-tinted sand, before returning to Labuan Bajo. Breakfast and lunch are included.

Day 7: Check-out and onward travel

The trip ends with hotel check-out in Labuan Bajo, from where guests continue to their next destination, typically by domestic flight to Bali or Jakarta. Breakfast is included before the final transfer, closing out the longer of Indochina Signature's two Flores-to-Komodo routes.

Frequently asked questions

How does this differ from the 6D5N Flores Komodo tour?
It follows the same Ende-to-Labuan Bajo route but adds a day and a coastal detour to Riung for Blue Stone Beach and a half-day snorkeling trip before rejoining the same Bajawa, Ruteng and Komodo sections.
What kind of snorkeling can clients expect at Riung Marine Garden?
It is part of the Seventeen Islands Marine Park on Flores' north coast; conditions and visibility vary by season, and specific gear inclusions should be confirmed with the operator.
Is a domestic flight required to start or end this tour?
Yes, the itinerary starts in Ende and ends in Labuan Bajo, both reached by domestic flights from Bali or Jakarta, which are not included in the land package.
Are Komodo dragon sightings guaranteed on Rinca Island?
Sightings are very likely but not guaranteed, since the dragons roam freely within the park under ranger supervision.
What is the best season for this itinerary?
The dry season, roughly April to November, gives better road conditions across Flores and calmer water for both the Riung snorkeling day and the Komodo boat sections.
