Package overview

Unlike Indochina Signature's jeep-based Yogyakarta adventure packages, this itinerary keeps a full-board city-and-culture format: the Sultan's Palace and Borobudur on one day, a film-set studio and the Parangkusumo sand dunes on another, and a full day of shopping on Malioboro Street. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included on most days, which makes it easier to quote as an all-in price to corporate or family bookers.

The Parangkusumo dunes, a stretch of desert-like sand near Parangtritis beach on Java's south coast, is the standout stop and the reason this itinerary stands apart from Indochina Signature's other Yogyakarta options. It is a good fit for clients who want a taste of the region's landscape variety alongside the standard temple and palace sightseeing, without the physical demands of the Merapi or Timang jeep excursions elsewhere in the range.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Yogyakarta International Airport

Guests land at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), roughly an hour's drive from the city center, and transfer privately to their hotel. Dinner is included on arrival day, and no sightseeing is scheduled, leaving the evening free for guests to settle in before the fuller program begins the next morning.

Day 2: Sultan's Palace and Borobudur by VW jeep

The morning is spent at the Sultan's Palace, the walled royal compound at the heart of Yogyakarta and still home to the reigning Sultan's household and a working center of Javanese court culture. The group then heads out to Borobudur, the ninth-century Buddhist monument, using the area's classic VW jeep transport. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 3: Gamplong Studio and Parangkusumo sand dunes

This day combines a visit to Gamplong Studio, a set built for Indonesian period films and now open to visitors as a walk-through attraction, with the Parangkusumo sand dunes, a stretch of wind-shaped desert terrain near the south coast, and nearby Parangtritis beach, known for its strong waves and local folklore. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 4: Full day shopping on Malioboro Street

The day is dedicated to Malioboro Street, Yogyakarta's main shopping thoroughfare, known for batik, handicrafts, silverwork and street food stalls running its full length into the evening. It is a lower-intensity day than the previous two, better suited to browsing at a relaxed pace. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 5: Free morning and airport transfer

The final morning is left free for guests to pack, rest or make a last stop nearby, before a private transfer to the airport for departure. Breakfast and lunch are included, rounding out a trip that has run on a mostly full-board basis throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Is sandboarding included at the Parangkusumo dunes?
The itinerary lists a visit to the dunes and nearby Parangtritis beach; whether sandboarding or buggy rides are included or offered as a paid extra should be confirmed with the operator.
How many meals are included in this package?
Most days run on a full-board basis (breakfast, lunch and dinner), which is more inclusive than Indochina Signature's other Yogyakarta jeep-adventure itineraries.
Is this itinerary suitable for families with children?
Yes, the pace is city- and van-based rather than off-road, and the mix of palace, studio, dunes and shopping generally works well for family groups.
Can this be combined with the Merapi or Timang Beach activities?
This itinerary does not include those excursions; ask the operator about combining it with the Timang Adventure package if the client wants both experiences in one trip.
What is the best time to visit the sand dunes?
Drier months, roughly April to October, keep the dunes firmer and more comfortable to walk on, and also give clearer views at nearby Parangtritis beach.
