Package overview

This is the short version of a Komodo National Park cruise, covering the same core stops as a longer liveaboard — Padar's viewpoint, Pink Beach, a Komodo dragon walk and a snorkel at Manta Point — inside three days rather than four or more. Nights are spent in Labuan Bajo or aboard the boat depending on the operator's own set-up for that sailing.

It suits agents packaging Komodo as an extension to a Bali or Flores mainland trip, where clients want the marquee sights without committing several extra nights to a full island-hopping cruise. The route runs out from Labuan Bajo harbour into the national park and back over the three days, keeping travel time contained and the whole add-on easy to slot onto either end of a longer Indonesia itinerary.

Trip highlights

  • Kelor Island stop on the way out from Labuan Bajo
  • Padar Island's viewpoint over its three-coloured bays
  • Pink Beach, coloured by red coral fragments in the sand
  • A guided walk on Komodo Island to see Komodo dragons in their habitat
  • Snorkelling at Taka Makassar and Manta Point
  • A final stop at Kanawa Island before returning to Labuan Bajo

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Labuan Bajo harbour, Kelor Island and Kalong Island

The trip starts from Labuan Bajo harbour, sailing out to Kelor Island, a small island with a short uphill walk to a viewpoint over the surrounding bay and a beach suited to a quick swim. The boat continues past Kalong Island toward evening, a mangrove islet known for the large colonies of flying foxes that stream out at dusk.

Day 2: Padar Island, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar and Manta Point

This is the fullest day of the trip, opening with the climb up Padar Island for its well-known view over three separate bays, followed by a stop at Pink Beach, named for the red coral fragments mixed into its sand. The boat then reaches Komodo Island itself for a ranger-guided walk to see Komodo dragons, before finishing with snorkelling stops at Taka Makassar sandbar and Manta Point, a known manta ray feeding area.

Day 3: Kanawa Island, return to Labuan Bajo

The last day is lighter, with a call at Kanawa Island for a final swim or snorkel on its reef before the boat heads back to Labuan Bajo harbour, where the trip ends and guests disembark for their onward travel.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a liveaboard with nights on the boat, or land-based with a day boat?
Set-up varies by operator; some run this as a day-boat itinerary with hotel nights in Labuan Bajo, others put guests aboard overnight. Please confirm which format applies before quoting your client so expectations on cabins versus hotel rooms are set correctly.
Do we need a separate flight to Labuan Bajo?
Yes. Labuan Bajo is reached by domestic flight from Bali (Denpasar) or Jakarta, and that flight is not part of this land/boat package, so it should be quoted and booked separately.
Is snorkelling gear provided?
Snorkel gear is typically provided on Komodo boat trips of this type; please confirm inclusions on the specific quote, as coverage can vary by boat operator and season.
Is there a Komodo National Park entrance or ranger fee?
Yes, park and ranger fees at Komodo National Park are charged locally and are generally not built into the base package price, so budget for them separately per person.
What is the best season for calm seas on this route?
April to October generally gives calmer water and better visibility for snorkelling around Komodo; the wetter months from December to March can bring rougher crossings and occasional itinerary changes.
